24 Hour Food Fast

Update: February 22
If you haven't gotten your box yet, you have a few options:
  • Contact Kevin and Corrigan Moving (973-9393). The Corrigan's are St. Andrew parishioners and have been helping sponsor the Food Fast for the past four years. Call and mention that you are from the St. Andrew Food Fast, and they will give you a wardrobe box.
  • Some appliance stores have appliance boxes available after delivery. Call Big George's Appliance Center at 669-9500 for more information.
  • I have a limited number of furniture boxes here at St. Andrew. They will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. Signup for one of these boxes this Sunday at EDGE.

We could still use a little parental help this weekend. We need people to help prepare and serve the meal on Saturday night. Dessert donations would be lovely. Also, we need someone who has a truck (or trailer) who can haul away our used cardboard boxes Saturday morning. If you can help with any of these things, please call the youth office at 429-8467.

It's coming...our fifth annual food fast event. This year, we are doing a bit different. This year, we are going to start on Friday night (6:30 PM) and go all the way through the following day without eating. We will conclude with Mass at 5:30 PM and then break our fast together, at a dinner prepared by some parent volunteers.

During that day-long event, we will be learning more about world wide hunger through games and presentations. In addition, we will pray for those in need and perform a couple of service projects onsite. One year, we made dresses for little girls in Africa (see website)

Can a person go all day without eating? Yes, it may be difficult but very doable! Why would my giving up food help someone else? We participate in this event for a number of reasons:

  1. We unify ourselves with people who suffer from the pangs of hunger on a daily basis.
  2. We will learn about where hunger exists and how we can help them.
  3. We will be raising money for an organization who helps people in areas of the world where there are poor, hungry and needy children (more on this next week).
