Total Consecration to Jesus Through MaryMany of you may be asking what the Total Consecration is. As Catholics, we believe that Mary, the Mother of God, was assumed, body and soul, into Heaven. During her life on earth, God granted her with many blessings. When the angel Gabriel appeared to Mary to tell her of Jesus's conception, she said to the angel, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word." - Luke 1:38 She opened herself to the will of the Lord. Then at the wedding feast at Cana, when the wine had run out, she said of her son, "Do whatever he tells you." John 2:5 Through this we see that Mary's will is ultimately for God's will to be done. By devoting ourselves to her, and asking for her intercession and guidance, she helps us carry out God's will. By completing the Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary, we are asking Mary to guide us to do God's will. The Total Consecration, as set up by St. Louis Marie de Montfort spans a total of 34 days. The first 33 days are for preparation through prayer and reflection. The 34th day is when we actually make the Consecration. It is broken into four parts, each focusing on a different part of becoming aware of others, ourselves, Mary, and Christ. Here are some links for more information about the Total Consecration according to St. Louis Marie de Montfort., including the entire preparation book online in both text and podcast form:
